The Elder Scrolls: Legends is a collectible card game which revolves around turn-based matches between two opponents. The cards are based on creatures, characters and lore found in The Elder Scrolls series. At the start of every battle, each player starts off with three cards and one magicka, which is used to deploy cards. To offset the advantage of taking the first turn, the second player also starts with a potion in play that can be activated to gain one additional magicka three times during the game. Without use of specialized cards, a player’s magicka can only reach 12 in a game.
When deploying cards, the player can place them on one of two sides, called lanes. Lanes can have special abilities which alter the fields of battle. In standard play, only the basic field lane and the shadow lane may be encountered, but in other game modes various special lanes can be found. When either player’s (or AI opponent’s) health reaches a multiple of five below 30, one of their runes will shatter. When this occurs, the same player will immediately draw a card, with the potential to instantly play it. The game consists of three game modes, which can each be subdivided further. The three modes are Battle, which can be divided into ranked, casual, or practice modes; Arena, which can be divided into solo and versus; and Story.
Cards are divided into three types: Support cards, which provide ongoing benefits; Action Cards, which are effects that are instantaneously played; and creatures, which are the main method of play in The Elder Scrolls: Legends.
Creatures each have a power rating, which determines how much damage it deals when attacking; and a health rating, which dictates how much damage can be taken. Certain cards also have keywords or abilities.
